Ravenswood Zinfandel Teldeschi Vineyard Dry Creek 2013

Here’s one of Ravenswood’s single vineyard wines from Sonoma that doesn’t see wide distribution in the US. Mostly, the US market sees Ravenswood’s general Sonoma County wines which are solid, but not nearly as exciting as these single vineyard wines.

Of course, Ravenswood is one of the great American Zinfandel producers and Zinfandel takes on all new meaning in the hands of Zin masters like Joel Peterson and the Ravenswood team. 

2013 was another drought year in California and this wine clocks in at 15.1% alcohol but it’s extremely well balanced. It shows rich black cherry, blackberry jam and clove notes with hints of spicy (peppery?) chocolate and coffee coming through on the finish.  

The wine spends 19 months in French oak (30% new) and is blended with a bit of Carignan and Petite Sirah.  It’s an easy wine to drink on its own and it would pair perfectly with BBQ, burgers stews and roasts. Fun wine!
